Australian attorney-general denies historical rape claim |

Australia's chief law officer has identified himself as the subject of a historical rape allegation. Attorney-General Christian Porter has outed himself as the unnamed Cabinet minister accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in 1988. Mr Porter has said he is innocent and strongly denies the claim. The alleged victim took her own life in 2020, without giving a detailed account of the incident to the police. Prime Minister Scott Morrison's government has been under pressure over its handling of unrelated sexual assault allegations by former staff, but Mr Porter has said he won't resign.
