Your Voice is More Than Vocalizations | Amira Sims | TEDxOcala

video thumbnail
What is a voice, but the sound of life? Your voice is a path to power; it is your legacy. In this talk, the author acknowledges that although finding your voice is a challenge, it is a worthwhile endeavor. Three small actions are described as the starter kit for changing your life.
Amira Sims is a mother of four, a college professor, and a spoken word artist currently residing in Ocala Florida. As a professor, she has been on the frontline teaching, uplifting, and helping students find their niche. Amira earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Valdosta State University (VSU). She is currently a doctoral student at Capella University. Her motto and self-proclaimed tag line “learning is my thing” neatly sums up many of her interests and her inspiration.
In Atlanta, GA, Amira has performed at Kat’s café, Apache café, Java Monkey, Urban Grinde and several other venues. In northern CA she performed via the Mahogany Poetry Series. For Amira, poetry is an effort to bring forth the fruits of her thoughts. Initially she took the stage name Mi (pronounced -me) because she said she is sharing a piece of herself with the audience when she shares a poem. Nowadays she usually just goes by her first name when she has the pleasure to speak. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
