* National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will not be arrested, at least until judgement is delivered in her urgent application to interdict her arrest.

* The High Court in Johannesburg is today expected to deliver judgment in the matter between the ANC and the Electoral Commission. The ANC is challenging the commission's registration of the uMkhonto we Sizwe party, arguing that it is unlawful. The MK party which the former president Jacob Zuma has endorsed, has submitted that the ANC has not followed internal electoral processes in seeking to have the registration of the party reviewed. The commission says the ANC failed to object to the registration in time.

* The Electoral Commission says 42 candidates appeared on more than one party list.
It has implicated 39 parties in the problem. The commission revealed this after yesterday's five pm deadline expired for political parties to inform it if they had nominated candidates who also appeared on the list of another party or who were nominated as independent candidates. The public may now inspect the lists of party and independent candidates. They will be available at the commission's national, provincial and municipal offices between nine am and and five pm today and tomorrow.

* Minister of International Relations, Dr Naledi Pandor has welcomed the United Nations Security Council's resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza for the month of Ramadan. The legally-binding text also demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages while emphasizing the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian access to civilians in the entire Gaza Strip. 14 countries voted in favour of the text while the United States abstained.
