Who gets to belong? | Carol Off | TEDxToronto

video thumbnail
Who decides who belongs in our society? For more than three decades, journalist Carol Off has been meeting and interviewing people from around the world for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She explores the fundamental question of belonging, how we see some people as 'others', and our bigger, human story. Since 2006, Carol Off has been the host of CBC Radio’s As it Happens, after an extensive journalism career that began as an arts reporter and Ottawa correspondent in the ‘80s, to an international correspondent in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Carol is an award-winning documentarian and author, well-known for her work on Canadian military missions that took her around the world, across the Middle East, Balkans and Soviet Union to name a few. Her most recent book, All We Leave Behind: A Reporter’s Journey into the Lives of Others, is a riveting true story told from Carol’s experience with a family fleeing the death sentence of a ruthless warlord. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
