The Me 262 Schwalbe was a fairly innovative aircraft developed by Germany during WWII. Using axial flow jet turbines, it was the first operational jet fighter. However, it was also prone to mechanical failures. The Jumo 004 engine was particularly temperamental, often suffering from engine fires / burnouts. The lack of fuel and adequate training for pilots certainly didn't help the matter either.
