Ngāti Ranginui rangatira Morehu Ngatoko Rahipere has died. The revered kaumātua was awarded the honour of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2007. He also received an honorary doctorate from Waikato University. Mr Ngatoko-Rahipere will be also remembered for leading his iwi to its treaty settlement in 2012 which was a long time coming.

Morehu Ngatoko Rahipere died just months after celebrating his 90th birthday in December. He will be taken to Wairoa Marae for the night before being taken to Huria Marae where King Tuheitia and his entourage is expected to visit in the morning.
