Coronavirus: Quebec pharmacies to start administering vaccines this month | FULL

Quebec health minister Christian Dubé along with other health officials, provided an update on the COVID-19 pandemic Tuesday afternoon and responded to criticism of the province's vaccine rollout.

Quebec’s mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19 began in earnest in the Montreal area Monday with long lines and grumbling from some seniors upset at the wait times to get a first injection. Hundreds of people, many holding walkers or in wheelchairs, waited in lines inside Montreal’s Olympic Stadium; some were discouraged, others were angry.

Dubé acknowledged that there were a few problems that they can adjust. He asked the public to not arrive too early to their appointments, only five to ten minutes before they're scheduled to have their shot. He also asked people to not show up without an appointment and not to have more than one person accompany a senior.

The minister said 350 pharmacies in Montreal will soon start giving out the dose based on the government’s schedule.

Dubé also said the Montreal region is being prioritized in part because of the presence of more contagious variants, such as the B.1.1.7 mutation that was first identified in the United Kingdom.
