Minnal Murali (transl. Lightning Murali) is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language superhero comedy film directed by Basil Joseph and produced by Sophia Paul, under the banner Weekend Blockbusters. The film was formally announced in January 2019, but due to the extensive pre-production works, the film's principal photography took place during December 2019. Though shooting got disrupted following the two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the makers managed to complete the shoot within July 2021. The film was predominantly shot in Kerala, with few sequences being shot at Shettihalli at Hassan in Karnataka. The music of the film was composed by Shaan Rahman and Sushin Shyam, with Shyam also composing the background score, whereas cinematography of the film was handled by Sameer Thahir and editing done by Livingston Mathew.

Set in the early 1990's, the film focuses on Jaison (Tovino Thomas), a tailor, who gains superhuman powers after being struck by lightning. He soon decides to become a superhero in order to protect his village against Shibu (Guru Somasundaram), who also has superhuman powers.

The film was set for a theatrical release in late-2020, but was postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2021, the makers announced that the film will be released directly through the streaming platform Netflix on 24 December 2021, as a result of non-existent theatrical releases due to COVID-19 pandemic.[2] The film was premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival on 16 December, before its premiere on Netflix. The film has been released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English languages.[3][4] The film received positive reviews from critics for its performances, direction, screenplay and the fresh attempt to create an original Indian superhero.
