Learn how to analyse industry for stock analysis: Every industry should be approached in a different way as each industry has its own limitations and advantages. It is our responsibility as individual investors to do our best to analyze the important parameters in a particular industry. In these two parts, we have talked about how to analyze the auto, FMCG, oil and gas, hospitality, telecom sector, IT, power, infrastructure, internet companies, and consumer durables. As a stakeholder in an auto sector stock it is important to keep track of the monthly auto sales data, growth of market share, cost of raw materials like steel, supply issues of semiconductors, etc. Electric vehicle is a theme in current play in this sector which is seeing good support from the government through schemes like FEMA. In FMCG margins become very important especially during inflation as the cost of raw materials becomes very high. It is important to check whether companies are able to pass the price hike to the customers. In Hotels & Hospitality, it is vital to check the revenue company is earning per room, it is called the REVPAR number and in Telecom Average Revenue Per Room(ARPU) should be checked along with other important parameters. Oil and Gas have two broader categories, upstream and downstream. Oil Exploration companies like ONGC and Reliance belong to the upstream category and companies like IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL who are responsible for refining and marketing belong to downstream. Generally, downstream face margin problems when crude prices rise as they cannot pass on the price rise easily.
