Everyone knew that sleep is essential for brain development and growth in the early years, yet sleep has remained a mystery for parents with young children for ages. Searching for answers on the Internet only causes parents to go down a rabbit hole with more confusion and no definite solutions. Hear a young parent share the concept that controls sleep in young children and how she started a paradigm shift in Singapore to equip parents with this scientific knowledge. Geraldine is a Biology teacher at Raffles Institution who is passionate about astronomy and affective education, and always thinking of ways to optimise and enhance pedagogical content knowledge. Outside the classroom, Geraldine spends time educating parents on the science of sleep, compassionate and respectful sleep routines, and sleep hygiene for infants to preschoolers. In 2016, she pioneered a Facebook parenting community to provide free resources and support on children’s sleep. Currently, she partners medical professionals and parenting experts to extend her work to the larger Singapore community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
