Volunteering: The Freedom To Do Something Important | Brian Tenclinger | TEDxValparaisoUniversity

video thumbnail
There has been a 58% decrease in membership in service organizations which means people and communities are impacted greatly. How do we attract new members to join organizations that have been operating 30 years in the past? We need to create a culture where all have the freedom to do something important and leave a legacy in their community. Brian Tenclinger is an experienced professional in the fields of higher education administration and nonprofit association management. Brian has an extensive background in leadership and organization training, as well as risk and harm reduction. He has done extensive research about volunteer engagement to better understand what a healthy volunteer program looks like with an eye toward the future. Professionally, he manages a team of volunteer leaders for a global service organization and serves as an elevated volunteer leader for his fraternity. He is an avid weightlifter who enjoys traveling and cooking. Brian lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his husband who is an award-winning pastry chef. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
