A former company secretary said it was "very clear" there were tensions between the Post Office's investigations and security branches, as she gave evidence to the Horizon IT Inquiry.

A 2012 email from the Royal Mail Group's head of security Mike Scott to the company's chief information officer suggested the security branch would "allow further theft/crime to continue in order to be able to identify and apprehend" alleged offenders.

Asked about the emails, former company secretary Alwen Lyons said she was not aware of tension between the two branches at the time, but added: "Having read this now, It's very clear that there are there were tensions between the two of them."
