The general elections of 1984 were held after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Which created sympathy for Rajiv Gandhi and Congress in the country. This sympathy translated into historic election results and Congress created history by winning 404 out of 514 seats. And no political party before or after could do this.
