Edit 25.6.2013: I'm currently building Chartres too (started it 1½ years ago :), there's screenshots at http://hakkarainen.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Games/minecraft/chart/

------

I noticed the competition at a late stage, so I had only a week left. I decided to use an existing design because of time constrains. The design is loosely based on Amiens Cathedral - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiens_Cathedral - in France.

I've always wanted to build a cathedral in Minecraft, but height limit has been an issue until now. I heard about this cool mod called Worldedit, which allowed me to attempt the task. I created a map and carved a big hole in ground. Lots of copying, pasting, flipping, generating, replacing, setting etc. made the job possible in the time I had.

The church is about 200x80x120. I copied it to a fresh 1.9 pre4 map with 256 block height limit for nicer scenery :) My build map had cones, vaults, pieces of roof etc. lying all around and it didn't look very tidy.

Never done video capturing before, so I just captured a few clips while flying around and combined them in a software. The software doesn't support Color Management so the video looks a bit bland because I couldn't correct color & contrast with any accuracy.

Making a video didn't feel that hard after all, altough with more planning and time the result would probably be nicer :)

The video was done in a couple of hours before competition deadline. Since mod support for 1.9 pre4 is very poor I couldn't use mipmapping etc. to make the game look prettier.

Also because I ran out of time the build is not finished. Floor tiling is largely incomplete, nave vaulting needs to be redone and a couple of other things too. I'll finish the cathedral probably after next release of Minecraft so I can use the new higher height map shown here :)
