DIY Pocket Filter Mask

video thumbnail
I care about creating a quality product so I take time to research and also look at what others do. I try different patterns and then put them to the test. In this video I show two design of pocket filter masks and do a breathing test to see how effective they each are. The results speak for themselves. I discuss the pros and cons of each mask design. I have simplified the job of making an effective Pocket Filter Mask and I show how you can make your own HEPA filters from a Kirby Vacuum cleaner bag to insert in this mask.

I have donate 450 masks for the cause to help during the Covid19 crisis. I am done donating. To help recoup the expenses of this project I am now selling masks.

The pattern for my pleated pocket mask is 9" x 13 1/2", 2 - 1/4" elastics cut 6" long. Instructions are in the video how to assemble. I use 1 full pipe cleaner folding in 4ths and twisted for the bridge of the nose which is removable for washing. I use 100% cotton fabric because cotton has a high thread count and makes a better filter. Quilter's cotton has 180 or higher thread count. I do NOT put any interfacing in this mask as this mask is designed to replace the filter as often as needed. One Kirby vacuum cleaner bag will yield 15 filters for my mask design.
