The breakthrough on a coronavirus vaccine being developed by Pfizer comes amid a grim picture playing out in New Jersey and across the country. The U.S. has surpassed 10 million coronavirus cases.
In the state, Gov. Phil Murphy is calling Tuesday's numbers “devastating” with 3,877 new positive tests. That’s as high as the daily case count was in April during the peak of the outbreak. The statewide cumulative total is now 260,430. With 21 additional deaths there are now 16,461 confirmed and probable fatalities. The health department says the new numbers may be affected by a delay in reporting caused by an issue with the state’s computer systems. Still, according to Murphy, it is evidence we are in the thick of this pandemic.
