Age of Empires - Part 1 narrates the dramatic rise to power of the Roman, Maurya and Qin empires. These three empires laid the foundation for much of modern civilization, and you’ll witness first hand their great accomplishments: The Roman army and the Roman republican government; the great cultural and scientific advances of the Hellenistic Age; the conversion of Ashoka and the spread of Buddhism; and the founding of a unified Chinese Empire.

You will follow in the footsteps of some of the most famous characters in history, such as Hannibal Barca, Scipio Africanus, Ptolemy of Egypt, Ashoka the Great and Qin Shi Huang – the First Emperor of China. On the way, you’ll experience the great wars which shaped the course of world history: The epic struggle between Rome and Carthage; the wars of Chandragupta Maurya in India; and the incredible Qin conquest of China. The battlefields of the ancient world come alive like never before. You’ll witness Hannibal’s genious victory at Cannae – as well as his crushing defeat at the plains of Zama. You will follow in the footsteps of the Roman legionnaires as they subjugate the Mediterranean world, and you will ride beside Ashoka in his bloody campaign against Kalinga. You will march together with the Qin army as it conquers all before it, and you will feel the wrath of Xiang Yu and Liu Bang as they tear down the empire established by the Qin.

To tell this story, dozens of different films, TV-series and documentaries have been used. This includes Hannibal - Rome's Worst Nightmare, Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire, Chandragupta Maurya, Asoka, The Emeperor's Shadow, Hero and White Vengeance.
