Lionel Messi's name was booed at Parc de Princes as he was announced among the Paris Saint-Germain starters to face Rennes.

The news comes after Mundo Deportivo claimed earlier this week that fans planned to whistle at Messi after their Champions League loss against Bayern Munich.

“We will whistle at Messi this Sunday. He has too high a salary in relation to what he offers on the pitch,” a member of PSG’s ultra group had said.

Messi was blamed the most by PSG fans for their Champions League round of 16 elimination since he failed to make an impact in both legs of the contest.

Additionally, some fans are disappointed with Messi's contract situation and feel that he has not fully committed himself to the team's collective efforts.

As Messi has yet to sign an extension to his contract with PSG, disgruntled supporters may continue to target him.
