Daniel Weinshenker has been telling stories and teaching others to tell stories for more than ten years. After leaving the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was born and raised, he taught creative writing for three years while working on his Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He then spent the next few years in marketing and advertising, helping companies deliver their messages.

In 2003, Daniel opened the Center for Digital Storytelling's first Regional Office, based in Denver, Colorado and another in Washington DC. He specializes in developing projects that explore the impact of digital storytelling for youth and within the health sector, and has also done considerable work with local museums and radio/television broadcasters and other non-profit orgs.

He has worked with survivors of sexual assault in Denver, refugees in Ireland, migrant farm workers in California, perpetrators of gender-based violence in South Africa and has facilitated workshops and presented on DST in over 20 states and 8 countries, co-written a book chapter on the effects of authorship on identity, and in collaboration with the University of Colorado, developed the first accredited certificate course in digital storytelling facilitation.

He is at work on a book called "Backstory" -- telling the stories behind the stories in workshops that he's led.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
