Being a newer country, Australia was able to draw on the traditions already established by the UK and US when devising our system of government.

From the US we adopted the two house system of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

From the UK we adopted the Parliamentary system, with our Prime Minister being a member of the House of Representatives and our Governor General signing off on our laws in the Queen's stead.

But there are also things we do that neither the US or UK do such as compulsory voting.
