The Roosevelt Institute, a groundbreaking progressive think tank, will launch a new project in 2012: Rediscovering Government. With this Initiative, the Institute will employ research, public conferences, and a communications strategy to develop a new narrative about the purpose and value of public action to counter the anti-government language, attitudes, and policies that have dominated American politics for a generation. The project will launch with a major conference and a special issue in The Nation; then, informed by that discussion, the program will continue with a series of papers by leading thinkers, roundtable discussions, conferences, and an online communications campaign to create a national conversation about the role of government, and promote "active government" in the public discourse. As a result, the program will play the important role of helping to equip progressive advocates, grassroots organizations, and the media with language necessary for a strong and well-informed defense of active government. The program will be housed within the Roosevelt Institute's Four Freedoms Center, with support by the Roosevelt Institute staff, fellows, and other Roosevelt Institute units, including the Roosevelt Institute | Campus Network and Roosevelt Institute | Pipeline.
