Emily Dickson employed a graphological style of writing that show the state of her heart as being disillusioned. The poem is an octave (8 line poem) yet the poet used 11dahes (-) through the poem and ends the poem with a question mark to show the state of her disillusioned mind.
She also uses a biblical allusion of the story of David and Goliath . Though David was successful in his launch of his Peebles against his Goliath to bring him down she was not successful with hers.
The poet also makes urs of symbolism words such as "power" "Hand" "World" "David" " pebbles " "Goliath" were capitalized and have symbolic meaning to the poem. - Powerful Poetry #Shorts

"Power" could be said to symbolize justice, - "David" - the Poetic Personae, "Goliath" - the system, person or ideas being fought against, "Pebble"- the tool, manner or system being used to fight , "World" - People
I took my Power in my Hand—
And went against the World—
‘Twas not so much as David—had—
But I—was twice as bold—
I aimed by Pebble—but Myself
Was all the one that fell—
Was it Goliath—was too large—
Or was myself—too small?
