In the South of France the annual Cannes Film Festival is in full swing

As well as a window for the latest movies, it's also the place to see and be seen in - whether you are a movie star or an aspiring director.

The deceptively calm harbour of Cannes in the south of France. But the stars, would-be stars and producers have already descended on this normally exclusive holiday resort.

Making a grand entrance Saturday by launch - and near enough for the cameras to focus, was Pamela Anderson. She's here to promote her new film 'Barb Wire' - as yet unreleased.

Nicole Kidman was equally poised on the balcony of the top hotel.
She's in town for the screening of Beyond Rangoon - an action film that's billed as an indictment of Burma's military regime.

Andie McDowell, star of Four Weddings and Funeral, cut the red ribbon at the American pavilion.

Then the partying started. The occasion was the premier of 'Unsung Heroes'. For actress turned director, Diane Keaton, it's her first cinema feature film ' and is being premiered at the festival.

" I think it's much more for producers because they can deal new movies, for an actress you have to come with the new movie otherwise its quite depressing because everything is turning so quickly one day you are like a star and the other day its over.

The partying goes on late into the night but then the hard sell starts and the film promoters swing into action. Attending the Cannes film festival might look like fun but it's also costly. In the morning all the publicity that the stars have brought to Cannes must be turned into hard cash.
