Dramatic arts in health | Hartley Jafine | TEDxMcMasterU |
|
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Hartley Jafine discusses the use of theatre arts in healthcare. Healthcare professionals must understand the patient's perspective and not dismiss them as simply another case. Through theatre and play, we can humanize the healthcare education and process in order to improve treatment and recovery.
Hartley Jafine is currently an instructor, facilitating drama and arts based courses, in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) program and Arts & Science Program at McMaster University. His research is focused on Applied Drama, Theatre of the Oppressed and research-based theatre, specifically using drama within professional health sciences training and environments. He has facilitated Applied Drama workshops and productions both nationally and internationally in Ontario, Nova Scotia, the United States, England, Bulgaria and Kosovo at the Centre for Alternative Theatre Training. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) |
