Supercapacitor is a specifically designed capacitor capable of storing large electrical charge. Supercapacitor can be recharged very quickly and releases large amount of power.

During Charging of Supercapacitor the positive and negative ions get aligned along the boundaries of electrodes and electrolyte solution thus forming "Electric Double Layer" which stores electrical charge. Hence Supercapacitor is also called Electrical Double Layer Capacitor (ELDC).

The two electrodes of Supercapacitor form a series circuit of two individual capacitors C1 and C2.

During Discharging of Supercapacitor the electrodes loose charge and hence they cannot attract the ions, resulting in ions getting distributed randomly in the electrolyte.
