There is much talk around the the great public debate on whether social media is the root of many issues in current society including leading teens to suicide, polarizing politics, increasing radicalization and distorting our knowledge of the world. This TEDx talk will help us explore data to get a better understanding on what is really happening with the social media around us. Dr. Chris Ferguson is a professor of psychology at Stetson University and also is a Stetson University graduate from way back in 1993. He is a clinical psychologist, licensed in Florida with an expertise in forensics and mental health assessments. His research has focused on the influence of media on mental health and behavior including violence in video games and television, thin-ideal media and body dissatisfaction, and social media effects. He currently lives in Casselberry with his wife and son. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
