On October 6, 2018, CCAS hosted its third annual outreach collaboration between the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, which introduced the Global Curriculum Fellowship sponsored by District of Columbia Public Schools’ Office of Global Education. A select group of teacher fellows, GU student research aides, and School of Foreign Service faculty reviewers worked throughout 2018 to create course syllabi for high school electives on global topics. Course syllabi in Middle East Studies and Global Perspectives were introduced by Corey Sherman, formerly of DCPS, and Kim Stalnaker of DCPS, with GU student Brittany Fried. SFS faculty speakers included Dr. Camille Gaskin-Reyes of the Center for Latin American Studies and Dr. Emily Mendenhall of the SFS's Science, Technology and International Affairs Program. The event was made possible in part by a Title VI grant from the U. S. Department of Education, which is funding a National Resource Center of the Middle East and North Africa at Georgetown University, with additional funding from the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies for education outreach and public events.
