Mitigating flood risks: Ulu Pandan Canal to be reconstructed in tandem with future developments |
|
Plans to reconstruct the Ulu Pandan Canal are in the pipeline. The authorities are looking to guard the flood-prone area from the worsening impact of climate change. The area was hit by a flash flood on April 17. The torrential rain was one of the heaviest recorded in over 40 years. Reconstruction works will include raising low-lying stretches along the canal and park connector. This will be done in tandem with future developments in the area. Over the past decade, Singapore has poured S$2 billion into drainage projects. It will spend another S$1.4 billion over the next five years.
