Deepsea Mining: An engineering perspective

video thumbnail
In this 45 minute webinar, Professor Frank Lim of the Petroleum University of China in Beijing, and 2H Offshore, gives a presentation on the engineering challenges associated with deep sea mining, including the particular challenge of robust riser design. The talk doesn't focus on the wider issue of should such mining take place at all (see International Seabed Authority and DOSI (https://www.dosi-project.org) websites for more about environment aspects), but Frank does comment on the need to avoid sensitive benthic ecosystems such as active hydrothermal vents, and having good design to avoid generation of sediment plumes.
