Sahir Ludhiyanvi, the genius Lyricist wrote many Gems for Bollywood films and here I present yet another masterpiece. Yash Chopra planned to have Laxmikant Pyarelal to compose songs for this movie but Sahir did not believe the L/P team would do justice to his poem, which inspired the film. Sahir told Chopra to sign another composer or give him back his poem!! That’s typical of Sahir as we have read, right?

Khayyam Sahab and Sahir both won Filmfare award for this song. The original song is in Urdu and is part of his only published poem collection called, “Talkhiyan” but for the movie a simpler version was written for ease of understanding and appreciation.

I am hoping my music loving friends will take a listen to my humble tribute here and enjoy the magic of Sahir’s poetry.
