Ukraine: Clashes in Odessa as pro-Russian protesters demand to hold referendum

Several people were injured in clashes between pro- and anti-Russian protesters in the eastern city of Odessa on Thursday after pro-EU activists tried to prevent Party of Regions presidential candidate Oleg Tsarev from leaving his hotel.

More than 7.000 people marched through central Odessa on Thursday calling the government members in Kiev "fascists". They demanded to hold a referendum and scede from Ukraine. Masked actors reenacted the liberation from the German Wermacht during WWII and flew a Soviet flag on central Opera house of Odessa. Barricades were also built in front of public buildings.

In the eastern city of Luhansk pro-Russian protesters continued the occupation of the Security Service of Ukraine headquarters as the stand-off with governement authorities entered its sixth day.
