If you read WSU news online you may already be familiar with some of the work that Erika Elving has done for the University; writing news releases and feature stories for the University's web page. Elving, a strategic communication major, is the news and media relations co-op student for University Relations.

This experience has allowed Elving to improve the writing skills that she has learned in the classroom by applying them on a daily basis, she has been able to enhance her ability to write in Associated Press style, meet story deadlines, and see the story evolve from beginning to end.

Elving has learned how an office functions on a day-to-day basis as well as the importance of communication between staff members. This experience has allowed her to form relationships with successful career professionals who are always willing to answer any question she may have.

By participating in this co-op position Elving was able to confirm that a career in the communication field is the right fit for her. "I am receiving experience in the communication field before I graduate from college. It is a great resume-builder, and can provide an advantage over graduates from other schools who may not have that experience," said Elving.
