Led Zeppelin: Fillmore East, NY. On the strength of Led Zeppelin’s debut LP on Atlantic, we dragged ourselves off a sickbed to venture down to the East Village rock showcase to see what they were like in person. It would make an interesting story indeed to be able to say that after hearing them perform, we were dancing in the aisles and subsequently ran all the way home. Suffice to say that the thought entered our mind, and though the spirit was willing, the flesh was weak.

'The Led Zeppelin, a British rock group, 'turned on' for a crowd of 10,000 plus at the Hampton Roads Coliseum last week.
The group, on the first leg of its tour in the United States, and the first time it has appeared in this country in over seven months, is composed of four musicians, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, John Bonham and Robert Plant.
Jimmy Page is 23 years old and plays lead guitar. It was he who more or less got the group together.
He conceived the idea for a group and the name, while still a member of the Yardbirds. Asked why the name he replied, "There's really no reason for our name. It's better, really, than cabbage or carrots." A formidable guitarist, he embarked on his career at the age of 15.
Speaking for the group, Page described it as "totally different from what we have done before. We are always changing, hopefully for the better. We have to change with the times." Some of this change was witnessed at the concert when the group put aside their electric equipment and treated the audience to a country-western arrangement using a non-electric sound.

My friend and I were listening to the radio on the 21st. We hear that Led Zeppelin was going to add another concert the next day! WOW! We rushed down and got tickets. Guess what.....front row, right in front of Page. Greatest concert I have ever seen.

A roar went up from the crowd at 2 minutes past 8, as the group took the stage and blasted into the "Immigrant Song". Suddenly the hours of waiting, the discomfort, the hype and rip-offs in the form of posters, T-shirts and high ticket prices were all forgotten. Page made a few volume adjustments and "Heartbreaker", "Black Dog" and "Celebration Day" followed. These songs are typical Zeppelin. That is riff-based songs with the bass and guitar playing in unison at maximum volume. Sure it's formula rock and it is not particularly progressive, but then the group does not have any pretensions to being "progressive" or "experimental" like the heavy German groups "Amon Duhl 2" and "The Can". Their aim is simply to generate excitement and this they do extremely well.

Concert at Bradford, St Georges Hall, 1973. I attended this gig, buying a front row ticket from a tout outside the venue (at ticket price) after the doors had been opened and everybody with tickets were off the streets and inside.

Led Zeppelin Delights and Disappoints
Last Monday night, Led Zeppelin destroyed the Capital Centre.
Playing material both old and recent, and several cuts from their upcoming album, Physical Graffiti, the concert was close to rock heaven: with hard-driving guitar work, a powerful rhythm section, amazing vocal performance, flashy, sexual stage presence, solid keyboard and mystic Mellotron playing, and to top it off, a stunning array of stage gimmickry, the Led Zeppelin concert was certainly one of the most exciting and musically com¬plete in Washington in over a year.

I won tickets to this show on WSGN. In fact, I won the "Stairway to Zeppelin". I was recovering from the flu but that did not stop me from drinking (slamming) six beers within 30 minutes of the start of the show. Needless to say, I slept through the show and this video footage at least reminds me of the show I missed. Thanks! Tim

It rocked my world to see my favorite rock and roll band in a small theatre, with maybe 1500 seats or so. I sat at the upper balcony and just screamed JIMMY PAGE, JIMMY PAGE, JIMMY PAGE at the top of my lungs during the opening number.
The Guitarist

At the age of 18 years old, I was in this time much more a Deep Purple Fan. Some Friends of mine asked me to come with them to Led Zep. We arrived very early ans so I´m stayed in the first row.
When the band hited the stage I was absolutely thrilled because these famous rock stars are standing in front of me. If they were not playing , but only standing in front of me , it was worth every cent. But then they started playing and it was a very exciting performance for myself.
