1.Do your ONE thing

If you’re lazy it may not be for lack of motivation, but lack of clarity.
For months I would wake up with a ton of excitement and motivation. I would think, this is what I SHOULD do today. Going to the gym, meditating, writing a chapter of my next book, making a Youtube video, checking email, the list goes on and on.
What would often happen is that I would sit around deciding on the first thing to do, get stressed as hours would pass by without doing anything, then distract myself by eating an entire box of Lucky Charms, crash from all the sugar and take a 3 hour nap.

I’d wake up and distract myself some more by checking social media and texting people, and before I knew it, it was time for bed and I accomplished NOTHING.

After months of this happening over and over, I had to be honest with myself and admit my strategy for achieving my goals wasn’t working. I decided to try the advice given to me from the incredible book, “The One Thing,” by Gary Keller. It is, “What's the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

Take 5 minutes to find your ONE thing for the next day, trust your instinct and then commit to doing your one thing until it’s done.

Idea number 2: It’s not a matter of can, it’s a matter of will.

You may say you’re lazy, but again it may not be lack of motivation, but lack of belief in yourself. You’re afraid of looking foolish in front of others, or you’re afraid of doing your best and not being good enough.

You can make your dream come true, the real question is will you?
Will you learn the skills needed to succeed?
Will you commit to improving?
Will you let people help you?
Will you start today?

Once you know that you can do it, you may find your laziness and procrastination come to and end because you’ll be so wrapped up in figuring out how to do it.

And the 3rd and final way on how to stop being lazy and procrastinating: Seek tough love

One of the greatest gifts you can receive from someone is tough love, people who believe in you and have high standards for what you can do. It can hurt sometimes, but it will definitely bring out the best of you.

I remember last year recording one of my audiobooks. I was about to upload it on audible.com, but decided to get some feedback from about a dozen of close friends and family members first. Everyone said they loved it and we’re impressed, except my grandma. She told me, “I found it boring, I kept pinching my arm, so I wouldn’t fall asleep.”

She knew I could make it better and advised me to redo the entire thing. I spent another two days redoing the whole thing, adding more enthusiasm to it, and because of that tough love it sold a lot more copies.

Find people in your life who give you tough love because they know what you could be and by taking that tough love, you'll become what you should be.
