Call of Duty: Black Ops features a campaign mission called "Victor Charlie," which is the ninth mission in the game. During this mission, the player is tasked with investigating the presence of Russian forces who are suspected of aiding their North Vietnamese allies. The mission requires the player to gather intelligence and identify any signs of Russian involvement in the conflict.


Plot

This mission begins with the player starting in a downed helicopter, with an injured pilot calling for help before being shot by Vietcong attackers. Mason manages to kill the attackers and attempts to open the escape latch, but Reznov appears and does it for him. Mason experiences auditory hallucinations of the numbers station upon seeing Reznov.

Mason then climbs up to a Viet Cong sampan and takes a hostage to kill the rest of the hostiles. After proceeding along the river, Mason and Woods embark on a stealth mission, during which Mason experiences auditory hallucinations of Reznov's words about Dragovich, Kravchenko, and Steiner. They approach two Viet Cong in the water and silently kill them before meeting up with Bowman and another SOG operative. The teams split up, with Mason planting C4 on an underneath structure and entering a hut to kill two sleeping enemies. Mason also stabs a VC troop in the chest and plants another C4.

The player regroups with Woods, Bowman, and other SOG operatives and blows up the village with the C4 previously planted. They fight many Viet Cong targets and encounter a ZPU-4, which Mason disposes of with the Grim Reaper. Mason also throws a grenade in each rat hole and destroys a turret with the Grim Reaper or a grenade. He and Swift climb down a rat's nest to clear out any remaining Viet Cong, during which Mason meets Reznov again and tells him Lev Kravchenko is near. Swift is ambushed by a hostile, which Mason kills, and they eventually meet up with Reznov again.

Reznov takes point and orders Mason to take point after counter attacking a Viet Cong ambusher. They finally reach a lab or small radio station, where Kravchenko's tape plays and describes the Nova 6 gas. The rat's nest is rigged to blow, and Mason and Reznov crawl their way to an exit before Mason must dig his way through rocks. After reaching the gallery exit, there is no sign of Woods or Bowman. Mason stands above a high cliff, and Reznov engages enemy forces on the other side with his M1911. Woods and Bowman come to the rescue in a 1st Cavalry Division helicopter, covering Reznov while engaging the VC. Mason jumps into the helicopter, and the squad is sent to Laos.
