School of Education Research Webinar
Recent large-scale reform of school leadership and management policy in Ireland means that Ireland is an interesting context in which to explore leadership preparation reform. A national framework underpinning the process of school self-evaluation, reform of leadership and management structures, and increasing importance being afforded to formal preparation have influenced who is deemed prepared to become a school leader. Furthermore, for principals, their role now extends to being more directly involved in leadership preparation at the school level. But is this too much, just right or not enough? Considering this question, in this webinar, research on principals' perceptions of the reformed policy context is shared by Dr Gavin Murphy, as well as both the possibilities and tensions they are experiencing on the ground in conversation with Anna Mae Rooney from the Centre for School Leadership (CSL), Bernard McHale from PDST Leadership and principal of Holy Child Community School, Sallynoggin, Valerie Maher. Sharing practical insights, ongoing research concerning engagement/ use/ and generation of research evidence in leadership preparation is also discussed. Speakers: Gavin Murphy, Anna Mae Rooney (Centre for School Leadership), Bernard McHale (PDST Leadership), Valerie Maher (principal of Holy Child Community School, Sallynoggin) https://www.tcd.ie/ |
