In fairy tales like "Snow White," "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," and "Rapunzel," these stories end with a royal prince coming to save the day and the heroin marries him and becomes a princess. In the end, they all live happily ever after.

But in fact, royal marriages dating all the way back to medieval times are far from romantic. Royal unions have historically been political power plays that end up benefitting a few powerful men.
