बिरजू महाराज को 1986 को पद्म विभूषण सम्मान, संगीत नाटक अकादमी और कालिदास सम्मान से भी नवाजा गया था। इसके बाद साल 2002 में लता मंगेशकर पुरस्कार से उन्हें सम्मानित किया गया। साल 2012 में सर्वश्रेष्ठ नृत्य निर्देशन के लिए राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार फिल्म विश्वरूपम से उन्हें नवाजा गया।
