Historical fiction requires a special set of skills: devoted research, a commitment to perfect detail, and atmosphere. Four novelists show us how it’s done. Chris Castellani, whose Leading Men recreates 15 years in the lives of Frank Merlo, Tennessee Williams’ lover; James Lovejoy, author of My Molly Life, set his coming of age story in 18th century London; Vanda’s Juliana Series of novels chronicles LGBT history in New York City; and Jon Michael Varese set The Spirit Photographer in the era of Reconstruction. Moderated by Matthew Griffin, whose Hide traces the arc of the lives of a long-established gay couple, married in all but name.
