Hypertension: Detect, Connect, Control

video thumbnail
This session of CDC Public Health Grand Rounds explored hypertension, or high blood pressure. Having high blood pressure increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Nearly 800,000 people die in the United States each year from cardiovascular disease, which is 1 out of every 3 deaths. An estimated 67 million United States adults have hypertension; almost 36 million of them have uncontrolled hypertension. High blood pressure is called the "silent killer" because it often has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people don't realize they have it.
