During the first presidential debate, Donald Trump mocked his rival, Joe Biden, for his mask-wearing habits. The president said he supported the wearing of masks 'when needed', adding: 'I don’t wear a mask like him [Biden]. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200ft away and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.' Trump and his wife, Melania, tested positive for coronavirus on 1 October, two days after the debate
