The body of British actor Julian Sands, who disappeared while hiking in California in January, was just discovered.

The bodies were spotted by walkers on Saturday and have already been positively identified, authorities said.

The Oscar-winning film A Room With a View and the television shows 24 and Smallville made Sands, 65, a household name.

Alongside Daniel Craig, he also shared screen time in 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The Baldy Bowl region of the San Gabriel Mountains lost its sands on January 13 due to the poor weather.

California was hit by devastating storms, leading to ice conditions and the risk of avalanches, which impeded both air and ground operations.In spite of renewed efforts earlier this month, police reported that "extreme alpine conditions," including more than 10 feet (3 metres) of residual ice and snow, rendered certain areas unreachable.

The Sands family appreciated the California police's attempts to find their missing loved one after he went missing.

Nick Sands, who grew up with Julian and his three older siblings in North Yorkshire, said he had already said his "goodbyes" at the end of January.

"For me, that's how I've dealt with it: I've accepted the fact that he's gone," he said.

Sands began his acting career with roles in films like The Killing Fields. He was born in Otley, Yorkshire, and attended Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire.

That caught the eye of director James Ivory, who hired him in the lead role of the 1985 film adaptation of EM Forster's novel A Room With a View over more established actors like Rupert Everett.

Lucy Honeychurch, played by Helena Bonham Carter, and George Emerson, played by the free-spirited Paul Sands, were at the focus of this picture, which took place in Edwardian-era England and Italy.Oscar, Bafta, and Golden Globes were just some of the honours that the picture, which also starred Dame Maggie Smith, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Dame Judi Dench, received. It's one of the best British films of all time, according to the British Film Institute.

After appearing in the Ken Russell film Gothic as the English Romantic author Percy Bysshe Shelley, Sands relocated to Hollywood.

Starring opposite Jackie Chan in the 2003 action comedy The Medallion, his previous film credits include Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, and Leaving Las Vegas, as well as the main character in the 1989 horror thriller Warlock and its sequel.In 2006, he played a Russian terrorist in Kiefer Sutherland's 24 and in 2009, he played Jor-El, the biological father of Superman, on the CW's Smallville.

Sands met the writer who would later become John Malkovich's wife through the actor's friend and co-star, John Malkovich. They raised their two kids in North Hollywood.

A former editor of BBC Radio 4's Today show and the mother of his son, Sands was previously married to Sarah Sands.
