Aging in Rural America: The Growing Crisis, A Movement for Change |
|
Each day, 10,000 people reach the age of 65 in the United States, and approximately 25 percent of Americans older than age 65 live in a small town or other rural area. Rural communities also have a higher prevalence of chronic diseases, a higher disability rate, a lower prevalence of healthy behavior, and a widening gap in life expectancy. After opening remarks from U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), panelists from Tivity Health, MIT Age Lab, Jefferson College of Population Health, National Rural Health Association, and Health eVillages discuss the challenges and opportunities within rural aging on January 25, 2018 at The Newseum in Washington, DC.
