Robotic surgery in gynecology

video thumbnail
There are several gynecological conditions that can affect a woman's life like pelvic pain, fibroids, or abnormal bleeding.

When lifestyle changes, medicine and other treatments do not ease symptoms, doctors may suggest laparascopic or robotic surgery. Both are minimally invasive surgeries done through a few small incisions and, as Dr. Ramzi Aboujaoude of Johnston-Willis Hospital explains, there is an advantage to these type of surgeries.
"There is less pain. Recovery is faster. The patient is ready to go home the same day or the second day. Even with major surgery, we send them home the same day sometimes. The risk of infection or the complications related to the surgery are a little bit lower."

Johnston-Willis Hospital also has been named a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
