Difference between Router and Switch |

Simple explanation about router and switch differences.
Both are used to move computer data, but with two very different functions. Routers are used to connect an outside network (think Internet Service Provider's modem) with a local area network. Whereas a switch is mostly to multiply the network connections with the same local area network. The specifics can certainly be more confusing. Some routers to act like switches. And, some switches can act like routers (VLANs). But, for the purposes of this simple explanation will stick with the basic functions of a router and a dumb switch (layer 2).
