Skittles Diffusion Experiment (Chemistry)

video thumbnail
Mixing Skittles and hot water gives you a surprising result in this skittles diffusion experiment.

▶️ See the supply list for the Skittles experiment: https://www.beardedscienceguy.com/how-to-do-skittles-science-experiment

▶️ How to do the Skittles diffusion experiment:
Step 1: Arrange a group of skittles around the edge of a plate. I found it works best to have at least two of each color in a row.

Step 2: Slowly pour hot tap water into the very center of the plate until it's just covering the skittles. Observe how the Skittles react.

▶️ How the Skittles science experiment works:
Almost immediately you'll start to see the color running toward the center of the plate. The molecular structure of the dyes used on Skittles makes it easy for them to dissolve and diffuse in warm water.
