TEDxDavis-David Osleger-Energy Limits, Energy Opportunities

video thumbnail
Professor Osleger is a geologist fascinated by the power of oil. A cup of gasoline can get a family of four up a mountain, but there's a problem. Oil is running out. In this talk he explains how we can sustain our voracious appetite for energy.

David Osleger is a Lecturer SOE in the Department of Geology at UC Davis where he teaches classes on the geology of national parks, the geology of California and planetary geology. He received his PhD from Virginia Tech in 1990 and has been at UCD since 1998, following positions at USC, UC Riverside, and the University of Texas. His interests in energy and resource depletion were sparked in the 1980s when he worked as a geophysicist exploring for oil in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore basins. His ongoing research focuses on the petrophysics of hydrocarbon reservoirs, global sea-level history and the paleoclimatology of lakes.
