Developing the roles to deliver Exercise as Medicine post-C19 |
|
As the fitness and physical activity sector struggles to cope with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Europe and the rest of the world continues to confront the continued growth in non-communicable lifestyle diseases. During this current crisis, the recognition by governments across Europe of the value of exercise in strengthening immunity and general well-being has never been greater. The fitness and physical activity sector is therefore, well positioned to play an important role in providing a preventative solution to the current communicable and non-communicable disease pandemics. However, this will necessitate working alongside healthcare professionals who will need to be convinced that we are a professional and credible partner in supporting their fight against chronic ill health.
We must continue to develop the educational pathways and occupational roles that will ensure that fitness professionals are effectively equipped to deliver exercise to at risk populations. This webinar will look at some of the great work taking place at a European and at a global level to establish higher level, clinically-focused occupational roles within our sector. We will gain an insight into the Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) role developed by Exercise and Sports Science Australia, the ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist role in the US and the on-going work within Europe to develop comparable roles.
