Football and Hockey Tournaments Held at Sainik School Bijapur:
Football and Hockey tournaments were conducted at Sainik School Bijapur from 16 June -24 June 2014.
In keeping with the upbeat mood of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Sainik School Bijapur organised a week long inter-house tournaments. Principal Col R Balaji gave away the medals and certificates to the prize winners and trophies to the respective teams.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the tournament held on Tuesday evening, Principal Col R Balaji said that the important lessons of life are acquired on the playfields. One learns vital values such as camaraderie, cooperation and commitment while facing the challenges on the sports field to emerge as champion.
In the final match of Football which was held in the newly constructed Football stadium, Hoysala house put up a spirited show and emerged victorious by defeating Rashtrakoota house with the score of 2-0. In the keenly contested Hockey finals it was Rashtrakoota which defeated Adilshahi with the score of 2-1.
The matches were also held under B and C categories. In B string it was Vijayanagar house which won the trophy in Football and Chalukya house in Hockey. The runner ups were Wodeyar house in Football and Adilshahi house in Hockey. In the C string Football match it was Vijayanagar which won the trophy. Adilshahi won the Hockey trophy by defeating Chalukya house. Rashtrakoota House and Chalukya house were the runners-up in Football and Hockey respectively.
The tournaments were held on the league-cum-knock out basis. The teams were divided into three categories. The first category-A string comprising players of class XI and XII, B string consisting of teams of class IX and X and C string having junior players from class VI to VIII.
The Football matches were conducted on the newly constructed Football Stadium by NTPC. Headmaster Col Rishi Raj Singh, Registrar Wg Cdr E Srinivas, Senior Master GSR Murthy and Mr. Aravind D., Project Manager, Nirmiti Kendra were present on the occasion.
