Q: I've been playing my guitar for around two years and I've learned a lot of chords. But, switching from one to another is causing me problems. I know pretty well all of the open chords, a few barre-chords, and some 3-note chords. The thing is, getting from one to another chord quickly. Is there anything I can do to help me get faster at switching chords?

A: The skills involved with changing chords quickly has a lot to do with not only the physical playing of the chords themselves, but also with some other techniques as well. The guitarist obviously requires very good physical ability for getting the fingers placed properly. However, we also need a clear - visualized process in our minds for how the order of the chord tones change. This involves a quick recall for each fretted tone, how the finger layout will be approached in the music, and how the finger placement will be performed (in the specific order and sequence) for each move from one chord pattern into another. In this lesson, I'll be covering these areas so that you can start seeing results with how quickly you're able to switch from one chord over to another.
